First Lady Cecilia Abbott today attended the Great Futures Luncheon in Lake Jackson, Texas where she joined local leaders and community members in recognizing the Boys and Girls Club of Brazoria County for providing a safe place for children to learn and thrive. The First Lady also spoke about the role that the Boys and Girls Club plays in protecting children, in particular from the dangers posed by human traffickers.
“You are helping to provide a critical foundation for these children to succeed now and in the future,” said First Lady Abbott. “You are opening their eyes to the many opportunities that are available for them, opportunities they didn’t even know existed. You are also protecting them from threats and dangers that they didn’t even know existed.”
Joining First Lady Abbott at the luncheon was Andrea Sparks, Director of the Governor’s Child Sex Trafficking Team. Following the First Lady’s remarks, Sparks spoke about the Governor’s Child Sex Trafficking Team’s efforts to eradicate child sex trafficking. She also encouraged attendees to learn more about how to identify potential victims, and to support organizations like Boys and Girls Clubs that are working to protect kids from exploitation.
